 9d violet ACSC 24 (SG 10) Plate 1 left pane No Monogram corner strip of 3 ACSC 24(1)z, quite well-centred, some over-inking at the
left of all units characteristic of this shade, a couple of very minor bends and a tiny aging mark on the lower margin only, small hinge remainders in the left margin and on the right-hand unit, the other two units are unmounted, Cat $40,000+ for
mounted.
Extremely rare: absent from Arthur Gray's extensive collection. The ACSC does not provide details of the recorded examples. The 'Artemis' strip - unmounted but the gum a bit aged; one pulled perf - sold at our auction of 1.12.2021 for $17,700 (Sale
246 Lot 42). At the time, we noted that the only other left pane No Monogram strip known to us was in the Morgan Collection (Lot 108 ) - described as having a "light corner crease and a few reinforced perfs in the margin at foot" - that sold for
£15,600 and again ex Peter O'Rourke (Lot 84) in 2020 for $17,625. This is another example, and possibly the finest of the three now known.
