873 c/D image1943 (Oct 12) Shinagawa Hospital Camp stampless cover from Sussex with British censor label, Japanese censor cachet in red on both sides & on the enclosed letter which is roughly torn at the base (by the censor?) but unusually with no han, endorsed "HQ" in blue pencil. Driver Fred Boughey was captured in Hong Kong & spent time at Kowloon & Shinagawa Camps before transfer to Omori Camp where he was liberated. He was repatriated on HMS 'Speaker' in -.9.1945. 875 PSE image1944 (July) Fukuoka (Mizumaki Number 6B) Prisoner of War Camp, Kyushu simple Japanese POW postal card from an American civilian with light camp censor in violet, very fine han of Kitano in scarlet, on the reverse superb han of Sakamoto, minor defects. Prisoners were used by Takamatsu Coal Mining Co, where conditions were so bad that 74 POWs died. Two senior Japanese officers & one guard were later executed for war crimes. (Image1) (Image2)

Apparently delivered, probably after Japan surrendered. The POW's sister states "Hope you have heard the news" but doesn't say what it is (presumably the imminent surrender of Germany, on 8.5.1945).
