ACTING & THEATRE: Extraordinary collection of Talma Studios (Melbourne & Sydney) cards featuring all the leading actors & actresses
of the day plus many of lesser repute, from the innumerable series published by this innovative firms including metallic backgrounds, tinsel appliqués, printed autographs, 'action' shots from productions including 'The Cingalee', 'The Messenger Boy',
'Sweet Nell' etc, some with advertising for shows and/or local theatres, many Undivided Backs (pre-1906) etc. The collection includes many types we have not previously seen including Greetings and Calendar issues, and very little duplication. The
quality is variable but most cards we inspected are fine to very fine unused or used (with potential for postmark or postal history interest) and some are superb. Ex Andrew Barrie, grandson of the Talma founder of the same name.
Compiled over 30+ years, this is probably the most expansive collection of Talma cards ever assembled, including many rare items from small print-runs. All cards have been scanned by Theatre Heritage Australia for their archives.
