3008 nh image1996 Health (Road Safety) Teddy Bear M/S as SG MS2002 but from the original printing with the Teddy Bear & Baby Facing Forwards and 'SC 439' at upper-left, unmounted. See Gibbons' footnote. Unlisted by Campbell Paterson. The design caused an outcry because the baby should have been facing the rear of the car to comply with safety regulations. The stamps & miniature sheets were immediately withdrawn & re-designed. However, some of the the original stamps were sold by NZ Post and a batch of the M/Ss had been distributed by the printers, Enschedé in the Netherlands, to their staff. A similar item sold at our auction of 11.12.2024 for $1920 (Sale 258 Lot 1589). (Image1) (Image2)
