1903 (June 16) cover to the Philippines from a merchant in 'Bandarawella' (two 'L's; LRD) with QV 5c & 15c plus KEVII 4c x5 tied by
'BANDARAWELA' cds (one 'L'), boxed 'R' cachet & three registration endorsements, the reverse with transits of Colombo and Hong Kong (?) plus American-pattern rubber 'RECEIVED REG DIV/JUL/6/1903/MANILA PI' arrival in violet, a bit aged. Bandarawela (=
royal field) is in the Central Highlands, about 70km east of Colombo. However, because of the terrain, it takes 5½ hours by car. PO 1891. Ted Proud records this first cds to 17JU/01 only. (Image1) (Image2)
