Watson: 'WATSON/830 16AP56/SOUTH-AUST' with time (ERD by two months) light but very fine strike tying QE 1d to Army Concession Rate
Tatts cover to Melbourne (Tatts dater of '23APR56'). Underrated at RRR; Handbook records it for only four days & this is the only example we have seen. TO 31.5.1955; PO 8.8.1955; closed 11.8.1956. 38km SW of Maralinga Atomic Testing Range (but today
not a trace remains of it). Presumably named after John Christian Watson whose election in 1904 as the world's first socialist prime minister sent nuclear shockwaves through the Establishment. (Image1) (Image2)
