1902 Anniversary of Discovery by Christopher Columbus 2d The Pitons imperforate colour trial in blue & brown-red on unwatermarked
ungummed paper block of 4 from the upper-right corner of the sheet, a few small pin-holes and two adhesion marks in the margins only where removed from the printer's record book. Ex Jerry Blair. This is the corner block from the half-sheet
illustrated by Frank Walton at page 5809 of The De La Rue Collection, where it is annotated as having been "sent to the Crown Agents for the colours to be approved ... [and] returned ... calling for a stamp in green and brown". The 'Besancon'
non-marginal single sold in 2022 for SFr435. A gorgeous item, also of great thematic interest. (Image1) (Image2)
