1850-57 QV Half-Lengths 1d rose JS Campbell & Co Printings on "better quality paper" SG 23a, margins good to large, neat Barred
Oval '1' cancel of Melbourne, Cat £1500. An extremely rare stamp showing the distinctive brownish rose shade of this printing. Ex Max Watson - sold at our auction of 3.4.2017 for $1340 (Sale 220 Lot 29) - and 'Dubois' (IV): sold for SFr915. RPSV
Certificate (2017).
Geoff Kellow at page 51 states "...The rose shade is often misidentified...There are probably only about two dozen copies of this shade recorded", which we believe is over-stated. In fact, most examples offered for sale are not the right colour. For
many years, this particular stamp was the comparator against which all examples submitted to the RPSV for expertising were assessed. Gary Diffen's superb example sold in 2007 for £1800. (Image1) (Image2)

1863-81 QV Laureates Emergency Printings on Tasmanian Paper Double-Lined Numerals Watermark 4d deep rose as SG 114 but Irregular
Compound Perf 12x12½x12x12, a huge stamp with Castlemaine '3' duplex. Unlisted by Gibbons and not recorded by Geoff Kellow, who states at page 164 that this issue exists "perf 12 only". The only likely explanation is that this item is derived from a
partly-perforated sheet completed with the Ferres machine, borrowed from the Government Printing Office in late-Sep/early-Oct 1864. RPSV Certificate (2024). (Image1) (Image2)

that sold at our auction of 5.8.2021 for $539 (Sale 245 Lot 635). Geoff Kellow at page 197 states "Probably only about a dozen copies are known".
