BLACK OVERPRINT: 'B.G.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Perf 11½-12½xRouletted 1d grey-green SG DO53, misplaced vertical perfs
but unusually not cut from the sheet to preserve the design, light GPO cds, grossly under-catalogued at £200. Rated RRRR. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2019). [Date range 2.4.1872 to 28.4.1873]
Ron Butler distinguishes between 1d yellow-green rated RRRRRR unused & only RR used, and 1d green unrecorded unused & rated RRRR used. Gibbons don't make this distinction and their price is for the yellow-green stamps. However, Don Pearce's used
yellow-green stamp sold for $1375 (Sale 247 Lot 65). It should also be noted that the recorded period of use for the yellow-green stamps is 12.1.1870 to 30.3.1870 only, consistent with Butler's RRRR rating. The other green shades are recorded only
from April 1872. (Image1)
