RED OVERPRINT: 'R.B.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Rouletted 2d bright vermilion SG DO459, very fine, rated R; 6d ultramarine
DO460, minor imperfections, rated RRRR; 1/- bright red-brown DO461, separation fault at lower-left, Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2019 states "extremely rare"), rated RRRRR; and 2/- carmine DO466, very fine, rated RRRR, Ex Victor Bullock: sold for $670
(Sale 130 Lot 551), RPSV Certificate (2007); all apparently cancelled-to-order with an undated cachet that seems to read '[crown]/CENTRAL MAIN ROADS BOARD/SOUTH/ AUSTRALIA' in blue, Cat £1330. Note that the very fine 'Besancon' 1/- sold for SFr1815.
The 1d and 4d were similarly cancelled - see the Don Pearce auction (Sale 247 Lots 676 & 681). They apparently comprise a presentation set of the First Issue values (all overprinted in red except the 2/- in black). Based on the several other
similarly cancelled stamps we have recorded, we suggest that (at least) three such sets were created in 1868 or 1869. (4) (Image1) (Image2)
