RED OVERPRINT: 'L.L.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Rouletted 6d ultramarine SG DO306, rouletting at top & left and cut from
the sheet at right clear of the design and a little into the design at base, unused, absurdly undercatalogued at £160. Unrecorded unused by Ron Butler and we know of only two other examples so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Theodore
Champion and Philip Croker. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2009) states "extremely rare". Lord Vestey's very fine unused example sold for £1020 but the Gibbons price is obviously based on the inexplicable result of only SFr181 for the 'Besancon'
example. Had everybody fallen asleep? Absent from Don Pearce's collection. (Image1) (Image2)

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'L.L.' on QV De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Perf 10 2d deep orange-red SG DO310 with Defective Second 'L', GPO cds of
AU25/77. Unlisted by Ron Butler & the only recorded example so, if genuine, it should be rated RRRRRR. Ex Don Pearce: sold for $204 (Sale 247 Lot 447). Offered 'as is'.
This stamp is something of an enigma. Compared to other 'L.L.' stamps, the overprint is ½mm shorter & ½mm longer. And the usage is very late. Chris Ceremuga Certificate assessed it as being a forgery. However, the cds appears to be across the
overprint, it was found in a multi-generational collection, and it is the only recorded example, which begs the question "Why go to all the trouble of creating a one-off stamp, with an unrecorded variety?" (Image1) (Image2)
