with roulettes at top & left but cut from the sheet on all sides to largely preserve the design, light '[GAMBIE]RTON/DE19/68/SA' cds, Cat £400. Rated RRR: Ron Butler rates unused examples at RRRR but Don Pearce has identified no examples & believes
that none have been recorded. Ex 'Sir Humphrey': sold for $490 (Sale 118 Lot 119). The similar-quality 'Tamiami' example sold for $719 (Sale 236 Lot 538). Don Pearce's very fine example sold for $570 (Sale 247 Lot 6). [Date range 19.9.1868 to
19.12.1868 only]
Almost certainly used in connection with building of the first government hospital outside Adelaide, at Gambierton (later Mount Gambier) between 1867 to 1869. The hospital closed in 1961 but was not demolished until 1971. (Image1) (Image2)
