1343 c image1876 (May 16) triple-rate mourning cover to "Kingstown/Ireland" with scarce franking of Bell 9d lilac-brown/pink Perf 12 SG 185 three very fine singles tied by Melbourne duplex, 'KINGSTOWN/JY4/76' arrival backstamp, minor faults. Ex Guy Linfield and Hugh Freeman: sold at our auction of 23.9.2011 for $529 (Sale 168 Lot 775). Geoff Kellow at page 190 states "Covers are especially rare since the 9d Brindisi rate lasted only another 8 months." On 1.7.1876, the rate was reduced to 8d, the need for a 9d denomination ceased, and the balance of the printing was revalued. [The illustration is above Lot 1338]. (Image1) (Image2)
