margins close to good at top & base but the left-hand unit just trimmed at left, slightly untidy Barred Oval '54' cancel of Brighton (?; unconfirmed; rated RRRR), Cat £2400+ for singles. RPSL Certificate (2007) mentions a "thin" which we cannot
discern. Barwis & Moreton state at page 66 that "Deep red-brown ... is by far the rarest shade. Purves estimated that fewer than a dozen exist" including a pair on cover. John Barwis' defective pair was described as "the only recorded multiple of
this exceptionally rare shade", but another - slightly cut-into at base - was sold at our auction of 22.5.2025 for $900 (Sale 256 Lot 846). This item is presumably only the fourth recorded pair. (Image1) (Image2)
