1367 c image1898 (May 31) to Australia with 1897 Imperial Chinese Post Coiling Dragon 2c orange single & strip of 4 tied by three largely very fine strikes of the large double-ring 'FOOCHOW' "dollar chop", Hong Kong QV 2c single & two pairs added & tied by 'HONG.KONG/D/JU 3/98' cds cancels, the reverse with Melbourne transit of JY11/98 partly overstruck with 'MO & SB/MAJORCA' [=Money Order & Savings Bank] arrival of the next day, back flap missing and minor folds along the perfs not damaging the stamps, otherwise very fine & attractive. Prior to China joining the UPU in 1914, overseas mail was required to be sent via one of the Foreign Post Offices. A remarkable destination for a Coiling Dragon combination franking. 1368 PSE image1898 (May 31) usage of Hong Kong Postal Card Reply Half QV 3c brown with '4 CENTS' overprint in red and in black & 'REPLY' blacked-out, from Foochow to Denmark with 'D.M. MELNIKOFF/FOOCHOW,CHINA' sender's handstamp in violet on reverse and largely very fine strike of the Foochow 'dollar chop' large cds on the face indicating the domestic postage paid in cash, the value indicium cancelled by 'HONG.KONG/C/JA 7/98' transit cds and 'SVENDBORG/11/2/4POST' arrival cds also on the face, a few light corner bends reinforced on the reverse. Prior to China joining the UPU in 1914, overseas mail was required to be sent via on of the Foreign Post Offices; Foochow apparently kept a supply of Hong Kong Postal Cards on hand for this purpose. A most attractive combination franking usage. 1376 c/D imageESTONIA: 1944 (Sep 3) stampless OAS cover between Estonian soldiers in the German SS, with very fine double-ring 'SARJA AG/EESTI' cds, stains on the reverse, with the enclosed 2pp letter written in Estonian. Very scarce because most such mail was destroyed by the recipients to avoid Soviet reprisals. The 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian) was activated 24.1.1944.
