Received in Tokyo after Japan had surrendered. David Tett in Volume 5 at page 27 notes that only 20% of the inmates survived the war. He recorded only two items of mail from Batangas Camp. Illustrated by David Tett in Volume 5 at page 155, where he states the card probably got only as far as Tokyo. There can't have been many Canadian civilians in the Philippines. (Image1) (Image2)

Sender gives his temporary address as "co Base Post Office/Melbourne" and states "...I was on the Lisbon Maru when it was torpedoed in Sep 1942, and the Yanks burnt us out of our prison in Kobe with incendiary bombs last June...[By train] to Yokohama...we flew in a C54 to Okinawa...a B24 to Clark Field...[&] a C47 to Manila..." We have recorded usage by Manila No 3 Australian Reception Group 1OC45 to 10OC45 only.
