1971-74 Floral Coil Stamps 7c Sturt's Desert Pea marginal block of 4 ACSC 535b from the left of the sheet with huge sheet margin,
two opposing impressions of an unusual-pattern machine cancellation with 'KING STREET/19NOV71/VIC 3000' datehead, full unmounted original gum, Cat $1200+. Superb. A very strange & wonderful item.
The ACSC states "At least four blocks of 4 (some now divided into horizontal pairs) are known..." Since their discovery, there has been debate about the status of these coil oddities. Our belief is that an uncut sheet, or part of a sheet was used for
cancellation trials, that seem to have been unsuccessful because we have no other record of this King Street marking.
