Border in the margin, large-part original gum, Cat £375+. Such marginal pieces are rare in the 1861-88 printings. Note the floral border is 13mm from the left-hand 'coin'. We haven't previously noted the different 'settings' of the floral border. The
relevant lots offered in this section could be the basis for a stimulating research project.

1861-88 5/- Coin Perf 10 deep purple SG 177a blocks of 4 (untidy Sydney cds) and 6 (unusually well centred, perf reinforcing, light
'dumb' parcel cancels), Perf 10 rose-lilac SG 178 block of 6 (Sydney cds), and 1897 Re-Issue Perf 11 SG 297c two blocks of 4 in different shades with 'POST & TEL OFFICE/SYDNEY NSW' cds or 'NEWCASTLE' cds, a few short or pulled perfs but generally
unusually fine for parcel usages, Cat £1300+, for singles. A very scarce group.

(Flowers) Border in the margin, Sydney cds of 1882, Cat £110+, for normal singles. Such marginal pieces are rare in the 1861-88 printings, and much more elusive used than mint. The 'Alvarado' 1897 Perf 11 used single sold for £348. Note the floral
border is only 3mm from the left-hand 'coin'.

1861-88 5/- Coin reddish purple Perf 10 as SG 180 complete sheet of 50 (10x5) each unit with seriffed 'REPRINT' overprint, the five
left-hand units with Decorative Convolvulus (Flowers) Border in the margin (small piece missing towards the top of the column), some gum residue in the lower margin, the odd insignificant wrinkle otherwise superb with full unmounted original gum.
Note the floral border is 6mm from the left-hand 'coins'. Ex Australia Post Archival Sale (I) and Bill McCredie: sold in 2011 for $1380.

1882-97 Wmk '40' 6d mauve Perf 12x10 horizontal pair Imperf Between SG 235cb, the right-hand unit with an ironed-out crease,
characteristc untidy cancels, Cat £3750; unrecorded unused. BPA Certificate (2013). Derived from the discovery block of 18 that was reduced to a block of 6 (institutionalised) & six pairs, one of whih is defective. Gary Diffen's pair sold for £2520.
Absent from 'Besancon' and 'Dubois'.

SG 240a but Imperf at Right, minor blemishes, large-part original gum with minor crazing, Cat £11,000 plus a premium for the imperf at right variety. A very rare and highly desirable example of the highest denomination. Chris Ceremuga Certificate
(2012) states: "Great rarity as only 100 [two sheets] believed printed and probably only 5 examples (one column) imperf at right existed".
