Frederick IX in high relief, with embossed card slip-case (tear), awarded to participants of the second deep sea expedition carrying out scientific exploration, the highlight occured in 1951, while investigating the Philippine Trench, scientists secured biological material from a record depth of 10,190 meters (33,430ft). 'KIELING-JNSELN 9.NOVEMBER 1914:HODEIDA 3.FEBRUARY 1915' surrounding the Ayesha on the high seas, 'ZU EHREN EUCH UND EUCH ZUM RUHM/HABT IHR GEHALTEN DUETSCHE/TREU-DER WELT GEZEIGT WAS/HELDENTUM-IHR MANNEN/VON DER EMDEN II !' in exergue, edge impressed 'SILBER 890', Uncirculated. Von Mücke lead his men on an 11,000 mile journey back to Germany after SMS 'Emden' was defeated by HMAS 'Sydney' in the battle of the Cocos Islands in 1914. The crew commandeered the wooden schooner Ayesha, which was in bad shape at the time, renamed her Emden II, patched her up and were able to reach Sumatra in November. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)

4085 imageGERMANY: 1937 German Red Cross Order awarded to British Nurse boxed medal and certificate awarded to Sister Miss Catherine McShane of the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service for services to the wounded members of the crew of the German battleship Deutschland at Gibraltar, also a letter from the War Office dated 9th July 1938 which reads: "I am directed to inform you that His Majesty, The King has been graciously pleased to grant you permission to wear the Ladies Cross of the Order of the German Red Cross, conferred on you in recognition of your services to the wounded members of the crew of the German battleship "Deutschland", at Gibraltar..", plus 'PANZERSCHIFF DEUTSCHLAND' cap band in original paper wrap, two 'DEUTCHES KONSULAT IN GIBRALTAR' adhesive seals, and photo PPC of the Deutschland, all items in extremely fine condition. (7 items) Following the outbreak of the Spanish civil war in 1936 the Deutschland was deployed to the Spanish coast. On the 24th May 1937 she was attacked in Ibiza by Republican bombers. 31 sailors were killed, and the 74 wounded were transported to Gibraltar for further treatment before being evacuated back to Germany. Columbus with arms outstretched, arriving on the American shore, in high relief, male figures lower right unfurling banner, Pillars of Hercules with three Spanish caravels and inscription 'PLUS/ULTRA' above 'CHRISTOPHER/COLVMBVS/OCT XII/MCCCCXCII', rev. 'WORLDS COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION/IN COMMEMORATION OF THE/FOUR HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY /OF THE LANDING OF COLUMBUS/MDCCCXCII. MDCCCXCIII/TO HENRY FLATHER' in plaque surrounded by torches, angels and globe above, sailing ship below, 'C.E. BARBER. FECIT' in exergue, in original embossed aluminum case. Mintage unknown, but believed to be 400-600. Superb! Flather & Co. Inc exhibited a variety of lathes and planers at the exposition.
