Department imprint at L/L, registered to Victoria with red/white R label. Not rated in the Handbook, but only one date is recorded, making this the ERD. [NB: F1-2 & F1-3 are definitely the same implement]

omitted; rated RRRR; ERD) superb strike on large-part outer to Adelaide with Perkins Bacon Rouletted 2d bright vermilion tied by indistinct Diamond Numeral '180' cancel (RRR; the only recorded usage on cover), GPO arrival backstamp of the same date,

Aubwin: Mordan-type 'AUBWIN/FE11/1858/=STH AUSTRALIA=' (rated RRRR) light but very fine strike on piece. Replaced Kercoonda 1.9.1851;
renamed Auburn 1858. [Both the Handbook and Martin Walker state that 'AUBWIN' is an inscriptional error for 'AUBURN'. However, it seems almost inconceivable that the Post Office in the 1850s would have allowed such an error to remain uncorrected for
some eight years]

Baker's Gully: unframed 25mm 'BAKERS GULLY/AU12/1873/S-A' (no apostrophe; rated RRRRR; ERD & almost certainly the only recorded usage
on cover) very fine strike on cover to Shropshire, Perkins Bacon Perf 10 6d indigo (small fault at the top) with very fine strike - but difficult to read on the dark blue stamp - of Diamond Numeral '263' cancel (R, but the only recorded usage on
cover), GPO transit & 'SHREWS[BURY]/OC8/73' arrival backstamp, minor blemishes. Both markings illustrated in the Handbook. PO 1.9.1867; closed 31.3.1908. Ex 'Sherwood' (John Forrest): sold in 2011 for £468. A real enigma: the Handbook records the cds
LRD as MY22/1906 (30+ years of use) but it is rated RRRRR. The numeral is recorded for just six years but is rated R only, and this strike is apparently the best available to illustrate.

Balhannah (3): Mordan-type 'BALHANNAH/JY24/1861/=SOUTH AUSTRALIA=' (rated RRRR; LRD) largely very fine strike & legible Diamond
Numeral '47' (rated C, but only three covers recorded) just tying Perkins Bacon Second Roulettes 2d pale red strip of 3 to mourning cover to Sussex, GPO transit of the same day & 'UCKFIELD/SP20/61' arrival backstamp, minor blemishes. PO 1.10.1852;
renamed Oakbank 1861, probably on 19.8.1861, the day Balhannah (4) opened. ['47' is common because it continued in use at Oakbank until 1880. It must be very scarce used at Balhannah. NB: to confuse matters, Balhannah (4) was allocated '147']

Mount Pleasant with De La Rue Rouletted 2d tied by GPO cds, the reverse also with 'MT PLEASANT/JA2' cds (rated RRRR) where endorsed on face "Try Reedy Creek", then 'PALMER/JA--' & 'TUNGKILLO/JA28' arrival (rated R), part-'TUNGKILLO/MR4' and
'UNCLAIMED' handstamp twice on the face, returned to 'GPO/AP5' & endorsed on face "Try Barossa/Goldfield" with 'GAWLER/AP5' (rated R) plus another strike of MY20, returned via 'GAWLER/MY20' & 'P O/MY20/RAILWAY' (UFM; rated RR), finally with 'DEAD

2.10.1848; renamed Tungkillo (1) 1850. Tungkillo (2) 9.5.1861; replaced by South Petherton 1870. Palmer PO 1.11.1868.

the Handbook is fully after the transfer to Blanchetown, which Martin Walker notes received official approval 20.10.1857. Usage at the original office is thus unrecorded]
