The ACSC states that "these two Cracked Electro varieties ... were probably responsible for the replacement of Electro 2".

24 F image½d green with unlisted variety Broken Shading Lines right of Right Value Tablet and additionally with Cracked Electro from Kangaroo's Toes to Oval above 'P' of 'POSTAGE' [Pos 2L44] being the right-hand unit in a horizontal pair, neat 'MANLY/17JA16/NSW' cds just clear of the variety. Dix & Rowntree (1995) list the Broken Shading Lines variety, but not the Cracked Electro. This apparently developed around the same time as the two Cracked Electros listed in the ACSC (Cat $1900 each) which "developed during the first half of 1916 and were probably responsible for the replacement of Electro 2".

30 nh image½d green 'CA' Monogram right corner pair ACSC 63(2)zb in a block of 54 (6x9 with gutter margin at left being the entire right pane except for the top row) including White Spot over 'P' of 'PENNY' [Pos 2R8], White Marks in Left Value Tablet [Pos 2R26], Gash in Emu's Tail [Pos 2R30], White Flaws under 'HALF' [Pos 2R36] and Top Frame Broken over Right Wattles [Pos 2R56] plus White Flaws in Oval above 'P' of 'POSTAGE' [Pos 2R35] which appears to be a very early state of the later Cracked Electro in that position, most units are quite well-centred, some central vertical & horizontal perf splitting, a few minor marks on the reverse of a couple of units otherwise very fine unmounted, Cat $2400+ for a mounted monogram pair, the five varieties mounted (not counting the Cracked Electro Early State which would add $4000) and 47 unmounted singles.

The ACSC states (p34) that "One printing was made in October 1915 comprising 49,200 sheets of 120 (ie. 24,600 each of Electros 2 and 3). Stamps from this electro (including varieties) are approximately ten times scarcer than those from Electros 1 and 2 ... The earliest known date for a stamp from Electro 3 is 25 November 1915".
