2½d indigo Plate 1 Inserted 'JBC' Monogram strip of 3 ACSC 10(1)zb, the central unit is unmounted, Cat $7500. Ex Peter O'Rourke: sold in 2020 for $3575. [NB: in the 2017 edition of 'Kangaroos', monogram strips
from both plates were priced at $6750. In the 2021 edition, Plate 2 strips were increased to $7500 while Plate 1 remained at $6750, which we believe was an oversight because this discrepancy is not supported by auction realisations. If anything,
Plate 1 strips should be priced higher]

1/- blue-green and 5/- grey & chrome ACSC 31 & 43 (SG 28 & 30) tied to small piece by complete & very fine strike of the ovoid 'PARCEL POST/16AUG1915/ADELAIDE' datestamp, Cat $775+ (£388). A rare franking: the 1/-
is priced at $2000 on cover; the 5/- is unrecorded on cover. 6/- was the parcel rate to England between 10 & 11 pounds by the Long Sea Route or for between 8 & 9lb via Europe. The highest domestic parcel rate at the time was 5/8d for an interstate
parcel bewteen 10 & 11 pounds.

6d ultramarine Die II Plate 2 'CA' Monogram strip of 3 ACSC 19(2)z, missing the side-margin at left, well centred, a couple of minor ironed-out wrinkles still unusually fine for having been used on a parcel,
'SYDNEY/8JE16/ 50 ' cds, Cat $12,000 for a mint strip of 3; unpriced used. A great rarity & a "must have" for the collector of used multiples or Sydney datestamps! Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2010) as the then #19z states "Genuine in all respects
[with] contemporary cancels. Extremely rare".
In fact, in all the major Kangaroo sales since & including Arthur Gray in February 2007, we could not locate a mint monogram strip of 3 - or larger multiple - of #19(1)z or (2)z. The unique in private hands strip of 12 with two 'CA' Monograms
#19(1)zf was offered twice. And that's it. This is therefore an exceptional opportunity to obtain one of the rarest monogram strips of three.

9d violet, 5/- grey & deep yellow and 10/- grey & pink (both unrecorded on cover) + KGV 1½d brown all tied by Adelaide cds of MY21/20 to a parcel-piece. A lovely, if only fragmentary, item. Ex 'Tillie Mitchell':
sold at our auction of 29.8.2020 for $2155.
The maximum weight for which parcel rates were available was 11lb, for which the domestic rate was 5/8d. The maximum rate to Britain was 6/- or 7/- depending on the route, or 6/4d from some time in mid-1920. Heavier articles were accepted, but the
letter rate had to be paid. If the addressee was in Australia or within the British Empire, the rate was 1d per ½oz x190 = 15/10d + ½d War Tax (per article, not per rate step). If the parcel was sent to a foreign country, the rate was 2½d x76 =
15/10d + ½d War Tax.
