407 c image1950-52 KGVI Definitives KGVI 3½d brown ACSC 253y plus the replaced 3½d blue tied by 'KAROONDA/28NO51/STH AUSTR' cds to Jack Peake hand-painted 'Pillar Box' envelope endorsed "Change of Color & design". Superb. Noted Adelaide illustrator AJ (Jack) Peake began producing FDCs in the late-1940s and continued to do so until his death in 2008. His early covers featured line-drawings, then later highly artistic watercolours. This item is from the 'interim' period before his illustrations became substantially more elaborate. The ACS Catalogue states "almost no design was ever repeated, even for the same stamp issue ... Jack produced most commonly four per stamp issue, but sometimes as few as one".
