1924 KGV Single Watermark 1½d red & 2d brown marginal blocks of 4 with three very fine to superb strikes of 'PARKVILLE/1MY24/VIC.' cds applied centrally (not tied) on plain unaddressed cover ACSC 89y (SG 77) &
ACSC 97y (SG 78), endorsed "Ros. May 1924' [Rosenblum] at L/L in pencil, Cat $10,000 each. The ACSC states in relation to the 1½d red that "Four first day covers have been recorded. There are two in the ... Australia Post archival collection" and of
the 2d brown that "Two first day covers have been recorded". Neither entry mentions a combined cover with both values. Attributed to the famous collector Dr WP Heslop, from whose estate similar covers are known. We are unable to confirm that the
endorsement is in Heslop's hand, and due to a lack of any further provenance, this item is offered strictly 'as is' with a nominal estimate. Grade A

1946 Peace set ACSC 236-238y tied by 'GREENOCK/18FE46/SA' cds to Arthur Bergen envelope with British & Australian Flags in blue and 'PEACE AND VICTORY' in red signed by him on reverse. The ACS states at p182 that
"By early 1947 Arthur Bergen had resumed producing philatelic cachets [having done so in New Zealand prior to WWII] ... on a small printing machine which ... would only print to the size of business cards ...". Frank Pauer has confirmed that this was
the first Australian FDC produced by Arthur Bergen. [See also Lot 380 below]
