9252 63s image1856 QV Medium garter watermark 4d. Carmine upon thick, blued highly glazed paper, SPECIMEN Type 2 (Vertical). SUPERB unmounted mint never hinged S.W. corner marginal well-centred, fine colour 'POSTAGE' inscriptional multiple of x6 in 3x2 format. South-West example bears part trace of double type 2 vertical handstamp. The most extraordinarily RARE positional piece, all stamps UM mint never-hinged, fine colour well-centred and in EXHIBITION standard state of preservation. Multiples of this early period surface prints are exceptionally rare. E.G. SG Specialised states a block of 4 of the normal unoverprinted 4d. Carmine catalogues £60,000= against £11,000 for singles. Currently catalogued £1,200 in SPECIMEN Type 2 format, what premium price for an unmounted mint inscriptional corner block of SIX? Catalogued £1,200 x 6 SPECIMEN singles … £14,000= extrapolated catalogue value seems not unreasonable - but, more important - we suspect that this may be the only such example in private hands.
