318 image 1935A $1 R and S Experimental Blue Seal Silver Certificates. VG8. A piece of WWII-era U.S. currency history. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing conducted an experiment to compare paper quality for currency production. In 1944, they printed two groups of Series 1935A Silver Certificates: Red “R” overprint = regular paper. Red “S” overprint = special experimental paper. Each group had only ~1,184,000 notes printed, making them a fascinating and relatively scarce collectible. (Image) (imageb) (imagec) (imaged) (All Images)

320 image 1950A $5 FRN(KC) F+ w/ a gutter-fold error left of Lincoln's portrait. Similar to a lot in the previous auction (Auc 44), the error appears of the face but not on the back indicating that the fold in the paper occurred between the 1st and 2nd printings of the note. (Intaglio notes actually have three printings in their manufacture. The 1st one prints the back, the 2nd the front, and the 3rd prints the serial numbers, the Treasury seal, and the Federal Reserve bank.) (Image) (imageb) (All Images)
