4062       image1870 (Nov. 8) Paris to Elbeuf (Jettisoned Mail). Folded Dépêche-Ballon No. 4 postmarked "Paris, R. St. Domque St. Gn 58, 8 Nov. 70" double circle and franked with 20c Empire Lauré tied by numeral "20" star cancel, backstamped "Elbeuf, 1 Dec. 70" arrival postmark, Very Fine, carried by the Daguerre.
Estimate; $400 - 600.

"Le Daguerre" was piloted by Sylvain Jubert with a freight of 270 kgs, landing later the same day (12 Nov.) with the pilot, passengers & mail all captured - the latter released after conclusion of the war - one mail bag was jettisoned, recovered by the French Guard at Ferrières and transmitted with arrival postmarks from the 20th of November to the 29th.
