Well-struck route agent's double-circle datestamp with day in manuscript and two strikes of matching "PAID" in rectangle handstamps cancel 3¢ dull red (11A), large margins to clear at right with brilliant color, on circa 1852 folded cover to Concord N.H., Very Fine, a rare route agent marking, Rarity VIII, with 2011 P.F. certificate.

Envelope put onto Route 1252 on July 23rd circa 1852. Probably carried east to Rouses Point for transfer onto Route 301 on the Vermont Central Railroad and east to Concord.

Simpson-Alexander list this as Rarity 10 (unique), however we note two other examples, one offered in the prior lot (lot 4340) and one other in the Wyer collection.

A STUNNING AND ATTRACTIVE 1847 ISSUE COVER.

Carried north to Whitehall on Route 935 for the steamboat to Champlain. The Route Agent had set the cds with "15" and corrected the slug using the stamp to obliterate the mistake and added fifth strike below to make the date readable.

The Sodus Point & Southern Rail Road Company was incorporated on March 19th 1852. The 34 mile line from the coal piers at Sodus Point was not completed until 1873 when it was contracted for Route 1285 at $1,700 a year for a daily service excluding Sundays.

Put into the post at Wallington Station located 4 miles south of Sodus Point. Put onto Route 1285 and transferred onto Route 1213 for Syracuse and eastward to Troy.

4355     123-S-unlisted image(Utica, Ithaca & Elmira Railroad) U. I. & E. R.R. Besemers. Feb 10, 1877. Bold double-circle station cds cancels 1¢ postal card (UX3) to Newark Valley, Extremely Fine and choice.

The Besemer's Depot post office was opened on March 9th 1876 with the postmaster as Mary A. Besemer. Located on the Utica, Ithica & Elmira Rail Road some 5¼ miles from Ithaca. Received the Station Agent's date stamp for Besemer's Depot to travel on Route 6075 contracted for 48½ miles at $2,226 a year for a daily service excluding Sundays.

Put into Besemer's Depot on February 10th 1877 and carried south on Route 6075 to Wilseyville for transfer via Owego to Newark Valley.
