1867 Hidalgo Issue - Gothic "Mexico" continued...

2342 o    39 imageMexico, 1867, Gothic "Mexico", 4r red on white paper. Light town cancel, margins large to just shaving at left, bright color; small thin, F.-V.F. appearance, one of the rarest stamps of Mexico, only seven in used condition are recorded and several have faults, this stamp happened almost by accident when the yellow paper (Scott #38) ran out and 1-4 sheets of white paper were used to complete the last printing in 1868, missing in most great classic Mexico collections, with 1984 and 2007 M.E.P.S.I. certificates.

2343     40 imageMexico, 1867, Gothic "Mexico", 8r black on red brown. Margins ample to touching, strong color and quite fresh, F.-V.F. and attractive, this being one of three recorded unused examples of the 8r black on red brown Gothic issue, with 2004 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

During the Provisional period no 8 reales stamps were printed and the few leftovers from 1861 were quickly used up accounting for the rarity of unused.
