THE EARLIEST RECORDED POSTMARK OF GRAND BLANC, MICHIGAN TERRITORY.

Grand Blanc was established in territory that was Oakland County before Genesee County was organized on March 8, 1836. George Bryan Porter (1791-1834) was an American statesman in Pennsylvania and Territorial Governor of Michigan from August 6, 1831, until his death on July 6, 1834.

Dateline on folded letter to Philadelphia, Pa., entering the mails with "San Francisco, Cal., Nov 27" cds and matching boxed "40" rate handstamp, with interesting enclosure of gentleman traveling to Oregon to settle in Williamette valley with a "few facts as they exist and to see what remedy can be made"…I shall first of all complain of the neglect to fulfill their contract, on the part of Messr Howland and Aspinwall, to carry the mail to Oregon, as they contract themselves only with reaping a harvest by bring passengers from Panama; by this neglect the mails lie at San Francisco, untill the first opportunity, also complaint regarding the Washington government in defining quantity official land settlers are entitled to, mention hardships in traveling overland, fighting Indians, mention in postscript mention a party being attacked by Digger Indians at the mouth of Rogue's River, Very Fine.
