ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED USAGES OF THIS BOCAS DEL TORO LOCAL NON-SERIF SURCHARGE REGISTRY STAMP.

This cover shows that Bocas del Toro used registry stamps with a local surcharge and are not currently listed in the catalogs. Both usages showing this surcharge were sent on July 17th 1902.

There are only three recorded on cover usages of Panama H4, this is a scarce use of Panama 78 with the H4 overprint handstamp. Late in 1901, the supply of Colombian A.R. stamps was exhausted. The 5c postage stamps were overprinted with magenta "A R" oval handstamps and used as A.R. stamps.
