This error was caused early in the issue when a thick figure 50c cliche was misplaced on the 25c plate (Stone C) at two positions, one of which was corrected
by redrawing the denomination and the other creating this error. The error was quickly caught with a few examples getting out in the first shipments of the issue. It is known from Puebla, Oaxaca, Orizava, Queretaro and Veracruz districts. (Image1) |

By the mid 1870's, the volume of
mail out of the British agency at Tampico was down to between 1,000-2,000 pieces, while Veracruz was handling even less. Because of low volume the Veracruz agency was closed in 1874 and Tampico in 1876. This is one of the latest usages through the
