The Arthur Wachtel Collection of Never Hinged United States Postage Stamps continued...

Newspaper Stamps - 1894-95 Bureau Issues continued...
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
1381     PR96 imageNewspaper, 1894, 24¢ pink, Bureau printing. Top right corner margin single, o.g., never hinged (hint of minor natural gum wrinkle), bright, fresh color, Very Fine, ex-Mooz, with clear 1988 & 2023 P.F. certificates.
Scott No. PR96; $8,500.

A RARE POSITIONAL PIECE OF THE 1894 24¢ NEWSPAPER, PARTICULARLY THIS HANDSOME POSITIONAL PIECE.

The 1894 Bureau issue was printed from the original plates inherited from the American and Continental Bank Note Companies. These plates were re-entered by the Bureau, and collectors will note several distinctions from earlier printings, including differences in paper quality, gum, and overall impression. This transitional issue saw limited postal use, as it was soon replaced by the fully Bureau-produced stamps of 1895, created from newly engraved plates.
