1852, 3¢ dull red type I, used from Canada. Pos. 97L2L 2 recuts at UL triangle, on cover with enclosure canceled with bold target cancel and tied with manuscript "6", red "Montreal JY 8, 1852" date
stamp, matching "CANADA" in boxed arc and Montreal "Paid" along with additional red "PAID" on cover to Philadelphia; most likely the Canada postage was paid in cash and possibly the 3¢ stamp was accepted as postage in the US, also enclosed is a
second cover also with letter from the same correspondence franked with another 3¢ Pos.77L2L tied with Saratoga Springs NY July 13 (1852) cds with enclosed letter written at the US Hotel in Saratoga Springs July 12 at 5pm by the wife Anna
Wharton to her mother in law who she refers to as mother, with mention of the letter sent from Montreal, the stamp is from the same sheet as the first cover proving they were using stamps that they brought with them, they were on their
honeymoon having been married on June 24, 1852, Very Fine, a very rare usage and interesting pair of covers. Scott No. 11; Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
