Lyre (Medium) of Canton, Miss. Complete strike canceling on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Florence, Ala., red "Canton, Mi., Aug 24" cds alongside; slight soiling and reduced at left, otherwise Very Fine, a choice strike of this rare type lyre cancel.
Skinner-Eno No. PO-Lh 2; Estimate $300 - 400.

Canton had four types of the fancy Lyre cancel. The large (PO-Lh 1), small (PO-Lh 3) and tiny in circle (LO-Lh 4). This "medium" Lyre is at time confused with the small type as the Skinner-Eno illustration depicts a very worn strike but does shows the prominent hook-like flourish at the upper right of the lyre.
