"Morrison" was the mail clerk on Train 34 and "N" designates North. This is the only known railroad mail clerk using his name as a cancelling device.

2248       imageShield of Bridgeport, Ct. (S-E PS-S 1) nice strike on 1869 3¢ (natural s.e.) and just tied by Bridgeport, Ct. cds on cover with fancy violet corner card of the "Union Metallic Cartridge Co.", tiny cover reduction at right, Very Fine, ex-E. Haub.
Estimate; $200 - 300.

The Union Metallic Cartridge Company was an early manufacturer of cartridge ammunition for small arms. The company was founded in 1867 during the most rapid evolution of cartridge design to date. Following merger with Remington Arms in 1912, the company manufacturing complex in Bridgeport, Connecticut became a major arms supplier during World War I.
