Neat handstamp on yellow cover to Findlay, Ohio, franked with 1861 3¢ rose (perf faults) tied by target cancel with "Saint Joseph, Mo. Apr. 27, '64" double circle postmark alongside, included is original enclosure datelined "Steam Boat West Wind, On Missouri River Near Bethlehem, April 23rd, 1864" written by the Second Clerk on board, the letter is signed with additional strike of packet handstamp, cover with minor edge flaws, still Very Fine, Unlisted in Milgram.
Milgram No. 1446C; Estimate $750 - 1,000.

AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THIS UNIQUE MARKING.

The "West Wind" (350 Tons) was built in 1860 at Elizabeth, Pa. and was destroyed by fire at Glasgow, Mo. on Oct. 17, 1864.
