Blue double oval on reverse of 3¢ postal entire to Boston, postmarked Woods Hole, Mass. cds with printed return address of Nantucket, flap torn away affecting marking, also included is second cover with "Steamer Island Home Aug. 10, 1885" ornate blue boxed handstamp on reverse of cover to Nantucket, franked with 2¢ Bank Note tied fancy Star in circle with "Nantucket, Mass. Aug 11" cds alongside, additional strike of straight line "Way" at left.

A STUNNING STEAMBOAT COVER SHOWING THIS FANCY HANDSTAMP - ONLY THREE KNOWN COVERS.

It is believed that this marking and the fancy "James Hewitt" handstamp were made by the same person. We have never offered this packet marking and a quick search of the Siegel website shows that none have been offered by their firm since the start of computerized record keeping.

455     685 imagePacket Jefferson (Mississippi and Black Rivers). Complete red illustrated oval handstamp showing great detail on 1851 folded letter from Black River to New Orleans, postmarked red "New Orleans, La. Nov 6" cds with matching "Steam 5" in double circle, sadly there are small surface abrasions affecting the marking including a small hole at center, horizontal file fold with defects which has been crudely repaired, still impressive strike and overall Fine cover.
