AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE AND ATTRACTIVE HANDSTAMP - THOUGHT TO BE THE ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLE.

Listed in Klein as a printed corner card, this marking is one of the few containing an illustration of a steamboat. This steamboat was dismantled in 1864.

THIS IS THE FINER OF THE TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE MARKING.

The "Greek Slave" was named after a famous sculpture by Hiram Powers. There were paintings of the "Greek Slave" on her wheel houses. The vessel ran on the Louisville-Tennessee River from 1849 to 1852 and later on the Mississippi River.
