Pencil note on back from Stanley Ashbrook: "This block is guaranteed to be genuine and sound. Used blocks of four of this stamp are very rare. The grids are genuine.", signed and dated "June 29, 1950".

A STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1860 24-CENT IN THE DISTINCT GRAY SUB-SHADE. THIS SHADE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION.

The 24¢ 1860 Issue in the Gray shade is considerably scarcer than the main Gray Lilac shade and merits a premium over the normal gray lilac. Between our records and the Siegel site there have been only 11 used examples of the Gray shade offered since keeping computerized records.

A GEM USED EXAMPLE OF THE 10¢ DARK GREEN FIRST DESIGN, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT ISSUES TO OBTAIN IN SUCH SUPERB CONDITION.

The 1861 10¢ First Design, produced from Plate 4, has very little spacing between the stamps for the 12-gauge perforation holes. It's rare to find instances of Scott 62B (or #58) with margins clear of the design on all sides. This stamp is a remarkable exception, especially noteworthy as a used example in flawless condition, and it features a gorgeous red cancel.
