Illustrated design in red, green & black on 1898 cover showing Indian in Full Headdress with Rifle, caption reads "A White Mans Rifle with a Red Mans Name", franked with choice centered 1¢ Trans-Miss tied by Utica, N.Y. flag machine cancel, Very Fine and choice, one of the rarest illustrated gun cover designs, this being one of only two known examples offered by us.

A stunning cover which is very rare and this design was not present in the Biddle or Beals sales. We have offered only one other example which realized $5,250 hammer in our February 2013 sale.

A VERY RARE FOLDOUT PHONOGRAPHY AD SHEET, PARTICULARLY WITH THE 1¢ CARRIER RATE, THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE EVER OFFERED.

Andrew Graham developed the shorthand system known as "Graham's Shorthand." It was the standard shorthand system in the United States in the last half of the 19th century until it was supplanted by the Gregg Shorthand system.
