A CHOICE COVER SENT FROM CONFEDERATE NEW ORLEANS TO FRANCE USING ADAMS EXPRESS TO CROSS THE LINES.

This letter was from Albin Rochereau, a merchant and battalion chief in the French Legion. The Legion was an organization of French citizens in New Orleans who defended the city during the Civil War.

Although Adams Express Company typically put mail into the post office at Louisville, there are examples of mail that was carried by Adams all the way to New York City. This cover does not have express markings since it was carried inside another envelope.

A RARE ARKANSAS MILITARY COVER USAGE TO CHOCTAW NATION, INDIAN TERRITORY.

Peter Perkins Pitchlynn was prominent Choctaw leader and played a major role in building the national tribal government in the nineteenth century. The Civil War forced him to return to his Mountain Fork home and sacrifice his pro-Union sympathies to protect his family and career. A compromise candidate, he was elected chief on October 6, 1864, and signed an armistice on June 19, 1865, at Doaksville. He also assisted with the peace treaty signed with the United States on April 28, 1866.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC COMBINATION COVERS OF THE DANUBE & BLACK SEA RAILWAY.

In 1864 the Danube and Black Sea Railway was founded and extended a distance of 46 miles between Kustendje, on the Black Sea, and Czernawoda on the Danube, thus forming a link between the mail boats of the DSNC at Czernawoda and the mail boats of the Austrian Lloyd Company at Kustendje. This local post officially begun its activity in 1867 following a Convention concluded between DBSR and Kustendje Harbor Company (enterprise working in Constanta harbor) regarding the transport of mail on DBSR railway, when the company put in use the stamp of 20 paras.
