A SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1866 7C MAXIMILIAN ENGRAVED ISSUE - A GREAT CLASSIC MEXICO RARITY.

Only eight examples of the 7c Maximilian engraved issue are recorded in used condition with several are known damaged. This is one of the finest examples and has not been available at auction in over 25 years.

This error was caused early in the issue when a thick figure 50c cliche was misplaced on the 25c plate (Stone C) at two positions, one of which was corrected by redrawing the denomination and the other creating this error. The error was quickly caught with a few examples getting out in the first shipments of the issue. It is known from Puebla, Oaxaca, Orizava, Queretaro and Veracruz districts.
