Strong impression on Writ of Manumission (declaration of freedom for a slave) dated May 17, 1800, with portion of text reading…"that I Priscilla Foster for and in Consideration of the Love and good will and affection which I have and bear towards my loving Friend Dello Miller my negro women of Price George County State of Maryland have given…do freely Clearly and absolutely give and grant to the said Dello Miller her…Freedom…absolutely without any manner of condition…"; some edge toning and wear at right, F.-V.F., ex-Combs.

AN EXTREMELY RARE A POSSIBLY UNIQUE DECLARATION OF FREEDOM FOR A SLAVE THROUGH WRIT OF MANUMISSION ON A FIRST FEDERAL ISSUE DOCUMENT.

No other stamped manumissions have been reported and it is probably unique. Maryland was a slave state until after the Civil War.

BY FAR THE FINEST OF TWO KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THE $1 MARYLAND FIRST FEDERAL ISSUE ON INSURANCE DOCUMENT THAT IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION.

The other example is light discernible impression on a hand written bill of sale with file fold through the stamp impression (ex-Joyce & Antizzo). The Combs survey lists three examples however these two are the only examples that are currently known. (see website for complete images).
