The Clapp correspondence was found in an old chest by
a Swedish antique furniture dealer in Boston. Some of the covers were eventually sold to D. F. Kelleher who sold them to A. B. Slater. Additional covers from this correspondence were later found in the dealer's home before entering the philatelic
market.
