865       imagePhilippines, 1857 (22 Apr) Folded Letter from Sres Matia Menchacatore & Co. in Manila to Their Office in Cadiz, Spain. Via an agent in Gibraltar, endorsed "Via Suez", forwarded by Lyal Still and Co. (oval cachet) in Hong Kong and showing (unusually) their numbered handstamp at front with fine "Paid at Hong Kong" crowned circle in red, also a Hong Kong date stamp in black, plus transit markings from Malta and Gibraltar, rated 3/8d in crayon, scarce and attractive item.

Left copy in a right margin horizontal pair with normal with "faint double overprint", clear to just cutting margins the other sides, pair, part o.g. (h.r.); each copy affected by some small faults, attractive Very Fine appearance, a rare showpiece with only 5 mint overprinted stamps known and this pair being the only recorded multiple and incorporating the only recorded overprint variety. Very important item for any serious Spanish Philippines collection, with 2009 A.P.S. certificate stating "right stamp has light creases" only.
