AN EXTREMELY RARE MINT NEVER HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 50¢ CLIPPER ISSUE IN THE WIDE TOP PLATE BLOCK FORMAT.

This wide margin plate block is one of the rarest airmail issue plate blocks with only a handful known. Scott catalog notes for this issue - "wide full selvage top margin plate blocks of No. C22 are extremely scarce and sell for $3,00.00 or more" (versus $85.00 price for regular plate block).

A search of never hinged plate blocks of this issue, we find only two in extremely fine condition with this plate block being the finer of the two. Only two hundred plate blocks were ever produced for this issue.
