Margins to slightly in at bottom, lighten ms. cancel, added as replacement on San Francisco News Letter addressed to New Orleans La., lettersheet with illustrated address panel showing Spread Eagle, Steamship & Train at bottom, News Letter is "Number 29" to be sent "Per Steamer J.L. Stephens" departing September 21, 1857, partial San Francisco cds, lettersheet intact with interesting content including "We have nothing definite to communicate regarding the opening of the transit route, via Nicaragua, and can only state that preparations are in that stage of completeness that we almost deem it a certainty steamers will leave this destined for San Juan del Nord on the 5th…" and "The P.M.S.S. California, in spite of evil reports as to her "tub" qualifications, took away 332 men, 28 women, 17 children, and 6 "suckers"; the Treasure was only $1,655,165, against $2,335,609, the amount shipped in the same period last year…", small lettersheet flaws, F.-V.F. appearance, with 2010 P.F. certificate.

In his census in the 1851 Sesquicentennial book, Wilson Hulme records a total of 43 covers used on first day of July 1, 1851. This is the only on-cover example recorded with a route agent marking, with all other examples originating in cities. (Image1)
