at top, Very Fine, a rare mule train express usage carried by Rafael Veraza for the British Legation in Mexico City.

The British Legation in Mexico City employed a gentleman named
Rafael Veraza to carry the mails between there and Vera Cruz, probably from 1842 until 1864. Veraza would meet the R.M.S. Packet and carry the mail for Mexico City on mules with frequent relays. Over one mule the union Jack was draped and in spite of
the many civil wars, this service was never interrupted. (Image1) |
