Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 521 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights
include the following:
UNITED STATES, There are (57) U.S. lots offered, with about half being an assortment of Classics and Banknotes. You will find all three Scott listed color varieties of no. 63 - the blue, ultramarine and dark blue - being lots 5, 6 and 7. The rest
is a mixture of a few Pan Americans, Louisiana Purchase, Panama Pacific, Washington-Franklins, and the late 20s and modern issues.
COVERS, There are (39) Cover lots, including a few nice stampless covers, along with some Classics on cover. And (28) First Day Cover lots, with several having Pugh hand-painted cachets. (additionally there are a couple of lots in 'Collections'
of Pugh hand-painted FDC cachets).
AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, a modicum number of lots (10).
ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, (2) Lots of EFO's are offered, both with missing color issues.
GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, There are about (200) lots to consider, with (145) lots of sets and singles from Armenia to Vietnam - Including some nice lots from Canada, France and Territories, Great Britain, Germany, Luxemburg, New Zealand;
and many other countries. There are (11) U.S. Collections and (33) United Nations, Foreign Countries; a beautiful Vatican collection - lot 385, and a couple of Australian collections worthy of consideration. Also, (14) World Wide and Topical
Collections.
AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, There are about (8) miscellaneous and autograph lots with a few notable Autographs - includes three former Postmaster Generals - J. Edward Day, Arthur Summerfield and John Gronouski. Also offered is the signature of
the ubiquitous western actor, Sam Elliott. The rest include various Memorabilia, literature and odds/ends; i.e. lot 99 which has official NASA lithographs of astronauts and memorabilia from the Manned Space Center.
DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS & PRINTS, contains about (194) lots, with a mix of Federal, State, Foreign, Artist Signed, EFO's, Governor's Editions and other duck related categories. Included are a smattering of collections, licenses and Junior
Duck Stamp lots. Also, (36) lots of Plate Number Singles, and (69) lots of Federal stamps consisting of singles, plate blocks and a few plate block matched sets. There a few miscellaneous items: (6) Mini-sheet lots that includes an RW72b, the
extremely scarce 2005 mini-sheet; the first year produced with only 1,000 issued; (7) Press Sheet items, (14) Artist Signed stamps. Also, (15) duck stamp error lots are being offered, with most being where the offset color has been mis-registered,
with some being quite dramatic. There are (6) State Duck issues, Also included are (11) Governor's Editions (with one hand-signed). In addition, there are (3) Conservation and Fishing lots. Sixteen (16) Print lots are being offered; (4) Federals;
RW13, RW39, RW40 - all First Editions, and a Gold Medallion edition of RW51. There are (12) State duck prints, featuring First of State Prints from Georgia, New Jersey, Ohio and Washington. Also offered is artist Robert Richert's California print
(CA12) annotated with two remarques at top and bottom margins - a very pretty print!
